Assistant Athletic Trainer (14315)
105492 - Intercollegiate Athletics

The Intercollegiate Athletics Department at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville invites applications for a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer.  Fully certified at the Division I level by the NCAA, SIUE is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Mid-American Conference (wrestling), and the the Missouri Valley Conference (men's soccer).

Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer and the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student athletes. Routine duties for the Assistant Athletic Trainer will include but are not limited to:
-Advise the Head Athletic Trainer on the sports medicine program policies and procedures, which will minimize medical costs but retain service.
-Advise the Head Athletic Trainer, Director of Athletics, and risk management personnel on insurance/medical issues related to sports participation and care of athletic injuries.
-Serve as conduit with team physicians, medical specialists, and health care providers.
-Coordinate medical communication between student athletes and coaches.
-Work in concert with Head Athletic Trainer to purchase equipment and supplies.
-Evaluate athletic facilities for safety; provides feedback for potential safety problems to the head athletic trainer.
-Provide injury reports to appropriate university and insurance personnel.

The selected candidate will be expected to comply with all university, conference and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Additionally, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will support the student athlete concept and at all times demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student athlete. Other duties and goals may be assigned in support of the department’s needs and goals.

1. Emphasize the student athlete concept and support the academic achievement of all participants;
2. Engage in all sporting activities in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University regulations and procedures;
3. Provide equal opportunities for both male and female athletes;
4. Enhance the University’s visibility and name recognition through a comprehensive program of successful competitive athletics;
5. Provide spectator events that contribute to campus life, build community spirit and generate regional competition and rivalry.

-Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred;
-Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (continuing education units required);
-Licensure by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (continuing education units required);
-Current CPR for Professional Rescuer/Basic Life Support certification;
-Strong communication and organizational skills;
-Demonstrated crisis management skills; and
-Working understanding of computers, including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
