STEM Instructor- TRIO Upward Bound, East St. Louis Center TRIO Upward Bound EC/BEM/MS (Counselor / Tutor) (11284)

The STEM Instructor will teach STEM related courses to students in the East St. Louis Center TRIO Upward Bound EC/BEM/MS Programs. The selected candidate will create curriculum; coordinate and prepare STEM activities; monitor student participants during regular programming hours; provide instruction and tutoring; and plan, schedule and implement effective individual and group counseling sessions for program participants that will include educational, career, personal, and academic areas.  The Instructor will keep accurate documentation and records of student attendance, services provided, and student outcomes. 

As instructed by the Program Director, this position will conduct educational workshops and presentations as well as chaperone students during college tours, transporting students to and from program events as needed.

Additionally, the STEM Instructor will assist students in completing applications for college and other educational opportunities. Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the program.

The SIUE East St. Louis Center manages six TRIO Upward Bound Program grants that serve 275 high school students from School, District 189, Cahokia, SIUE East St. Louis Charter, Brooklyn and Madison, Collinsville, Granite City. Upward Bound is a federally funded college preparatory program for students in high school. The purpose of these programs is to increase the likelihood that low-income first-generation college students will graduate from high school, enroll in post-secondary education, and obtain a post-secondary degree.  To learn more about the Upward Bound programs, visit: https://www.siue.edu/upward-bound/index.shtml

- Bachelor's degree required in STEM, Math, Science, Computer Technology or any other related subject matter;
- Minimum of two (2) years working in an academic environment;
- Experience working in related educational and/or other programs for disadvantaged youth;
- Experience working for educational programs that address needs of low-income, first generational disadvantaged youth.

-Master's degree.
