The SIU School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is accepting applications to fill current and future Dental Hygienist openings at their Alton dental clinics.

The Dental Hygienist is primarily responsible for the clinical recall patients at the School’s Dental Clinic.  Duties for the Dental Hygienist may include clinical screening, oral examination, periodontal examination, take and process radiographs, conduct sampling collection, complete select treatments, and advise patients regarding personal oral hygiene. The selected candidate(s) will also maintain hand pieces and other equipment, reporting as required when equipment does not function properly as well as maintain the general appearance of the operatory by cleaning the area before and after each appointment. Additionally, the Dental Hygienist will receive and store supplies and equipment; provide chair side assistance; prepare, clean and disinfect treatment areas; complete sterilization and instrument/equipment preparation; and provide general dental assisting duties as needed.

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the goals and needs of the department.

The hours for these positions are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (37.5 hours weekly) and require no weekend or evening hours. The dental school (including clinics) is closed for major holidays including Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday) and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  Full-time SIUE employees receive an excellent array of benefits that include:
