The Web Specialist III collaborates extensively with the Technology Librarian and other Library and Information Services (LIS) stakeholders to ensure that content and services delivered to the public via web and online services reflect and match the breadth of services, collections, exhibits, and events made available by LIS. Under the direction of the Technology Librarian, the Web Specialist III will collaborate in the development, management, and assessment of the library’s online presence, including but not limited to the library website, mobile accessibility and vendor-hosted digital products. Their primary focus will be on the design, creation, customization, and maintenance of LIS web pages and web application’s user interfaces delivered through proprietary and open source technologies.

Additional duties for the Web Specialist III may include:
- Design and lead usability testing efforts for the Library’s web presence.
- Collaborate in the development of online learning objects, research support tools, and web content.
- Investigate and evaluate technologies to create web content and/or improve access and delivery of digital resources, and services.
- Responsible for web-based system integration.
- Monitor compliance with standards and accessibility.
- Develop, recommend, and implement project management procedures for creating, updating, maintaining and administering web sites.
- Coordinate with other LIS faculty and staff to effect changes in the content, quality, and style of the web site of graphic art material.
- Participate in departmental meetings associated with web site as necessary.
- Create animated, dynamic, and/or secure web pages, and interactive data entry, utilizing advanced web-related languages.
- Provide front and back end web support.
- Design, code, test, and implement web-based computer programs in developmental and maintenance modes.
- Design and implement web-based access to databases.
- Provide training on web-based solutions.
- Assist in creating content with digital media equipment and design site graphics.

Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the department.

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. Any one or any combination of the following types of preparation:
(a) College/vocational/technical training with a concentration in computer science, graphic design, journalism, English, technical communication or related fields
(b) Additional work experience at or comparable to Level II of this series {work experience in web page preparation, design, and maintenance (i.e., HTML text editors and HTML graphical editors, graphics programs and digital media equipment)}
      That totals 1.0 unit according to the following conversion rates:
      Bachelor’s degree (or 120 semester hours) of “a” = 1 unit
      36 months of “b”=1.0 unit

-Specific coursework/experience in web coding and web authoring with knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and Bootstrap;
-Working knowledge of web programming languages and databases;
-Knowledge or work experience with library specific technologies and open source software;
-Ability to communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.
