Illinois Residency Requirement: This position requires Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date.

 

The Assistant Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) is part of a growing team of professionals in the Kimmel Student Involvement Center (KSIC) committed to curating transformational experiences where students learn to define their purpose and identify their impact. This position will partner with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to educate and empower students in a vibrant and inclusive space that fosters belonging.

 

The SIUE Fraternity and Sorority Life community has been offering a premier leadership development experience since 1961 with organizations who are committed to living up to the values of the institution and their organization. The community is home to 21 (inter)national organizations (11 fraternities and 10 sororities) all with different missions, purposes, and experiences, governed by four student-led executive boards.

 

What a day of work might look like:

-Advising student governing councils, supporting chapter presidents and supporting councils and chapters with all recruitment and intake programs.

-Developing, assessing, and reviewing the planning and facilitation of educational programs, workshops, and retreats focused around the department's Foundational Pillars of Leadership, Training, and Governance; Empathy, Humility, and Action; Student Connectedness and Programming.

-Supporting extension/expansion processes and collaborating with inter/national headquarters staff to ensure a successful transition to campus.

-Collaborating with colleagues, including but not limited to other Kimmel Student Involvement Center staff, Dean of Students Office, SIUE Police, Title IX, and the Inclusive Excellence, Education, and Development Hub (The Hub), Career Development, inter/national headquarters staff to promote the well-being and development of individual members, chapters, councils and the fraternity/sorority community.

-Maintaining membership and other chapter records, annual reports, council budgets, FSL policies and procedures.

-Participating in departmental and campus-wide committees, and professional development initiatives through national organizations, such as AFA or the NASPA Fraternity and Sorority Knowledge Community.

 

This job is for you if:

-You focus daily on the impact your work has on student persistence, retention, and graduation rates.

-You enjoy designing and implementing programs and services to support FSL community members.

-You understand the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organization, National Pan-Hellenic Council, National Panhellenic Conference, North American Interfraternity Conference, and/or other umbrella fraternal organizations.

-You have skill and knowledge of best practices in risk reduction (alcohol, gender-based violence, mental health and hazing).

-You have experience with student information databases/systems and spreadsheets (Campus Labs/Anthology, Banner, and Campus Director/ICS), familiarity with FERPA and CLERY Act compliance obligations.

-You thrive working individually while having the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with a variety of campus partners, chapter advisors, and inter/national headquarters staff. 

-You have experience working with a diverse student population and have a strong working knowledge of student development theory.

-You have engaged/are willing to engage in professional development activities to enhance knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least (1) one-year full-time experience working with social Greek-letter student organizations in either an advisory or leadership capacity OR Two years of a graduate assistantship.

 

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education administration, counseling, or similar field.
  • Membership in an inter/national social fraternity or sorority.
  • Supervision experience.
Exempt
$4,603 Monthly ($55,236 Annual); excellent benefits package.
