      SIUE is pleased to announce Open Recruitment/Testing for Grounds Worker positions for the FY23 year.  

      PLEASE NOTE: Open Recruitment classifications describe a group of positions that are frequently hired, therefore applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.  If you meet the minimum qualifications, your application materials will be assessed and your name will be added to the employment register for current and/or future vacancies within this job title.  When a department has an opening for a ‘Open Recruitment’ classification, only applicants who have applied, qualified and tested will be considered.       Grounds Workers spend a substantial amount of time mowing, trimming, dethatching, fertilizing lawns, aerating lawns and fields, seeding and sodding, raking and mulch leaves on all University property. The selected candidate will maintain athletic fields/artificial turf, mark out boundaries, paint team logos, and remove trash /recycle material. The Grounds Worker also handles removal of nuisance animals.

      Additionally, Grounds Workers will assist in tree planting, and trimming of hedges, shrubs and small trees, removing dead trees, damaged or unwanted trees as needed. Grounds Workers will also help plant flowers, trees, and shrubs and water lawns, trees and landscapes.

      Other duties may include:
      - Remove of concrete/asphalt and debris while repairing and maintaining secondary roads/parking areas
      - Cleans streets, walks, drains, catch basins/outdoor areas.
      - Apply fertilizers/pesticides and chemicals to stimulate growth and prevent or control weeds, disease or insect infestation.
      - Weed and mulch landscape beds.
      - Maintains irrigation systems.
      - Supervise temporary workers and student workers performing the duties of the grounds department.
      - Assist with removal of snow and ice from roads, sidewalks, stairs, ramps, driveways and parking lots.

      Candidates must have the ability to perform the following physical activities: lifting, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, carrying heavy loads, grasping, bending, walking, and driving as well as assist with removal of snow and ice from roads, sidewalks, stairs, ramps, driveways and parking lots as needed.  Snow removal may require Grounds Workers to work occasional evenings, weekends and holidays.

      Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department/university’s mission and goals.  Grounds Workers positions are held at all three campuses, Edwardsville, East St. Louis and Alton; specific departments may vary.  Please be sure to indicate the campuses you would be willing to work at on your Civil Service application.

      The SIU School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is pleased to announce open testing for multiple current and future Dental Assistant I positions for FY23.

      The SIU Dental Clinics offer a variety of treatments, including the latest advances in dental therapy, in a relaxed and modern atmosphere. While Dental Clinics are operated on all three campuses; Alton, Edwardsville, and East St. Louis, the Dental Assistant I is stationed at the Alton Dental Clinic.  The Dental Assistant I is responsible for sterilizing, arranging, and dispensing dental instruments, equipment, and supplies for the treatment of patients by students and faculty at the clinic. This position will properly destroy and dispose of used materials and stock dental operating areas with necessary disposable supplies.  Additionally, the selected candidate will annually assist in the preparation for mock and regional boards, and assist in logging cases in and out from the external professional dental laboratories.  Other duties and goals may be assigned in support of the clinic’s mission and goals.  

      The Dental Assistant I is an entry level position with the School of Dental Medicine.  After allotted probationary period and hands-on experience, the clinic can offer additional in-house training to potentially advance employees to a Dental Assistant II role within the SDM clinics. 

      The hours for these positions are Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (37.5 hours weekly) and require no weekend or evening hours. The dental school (including clinics) is closed for major holidays including Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday) and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  Full-time SIUE employees receive an excellent array of benefits that include:

School of Nursing faculty advise and monitor student progress throughout the program, promoting academic and personal success.

      The SNAP Advisor is responsible for conscientious file management, academic advising, registration of assigned nursing students and and development of student program progression plans.  The selected candidate will meet with prospective students and families to provide them with School of Nursing information as well as maintain summary data on inquiries, prospective students, applicants, admitted students, enrolled students and inactive students for purposes of keeping the Director of Student Services, the Director of the SNAP Program, the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs, the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, and the Dean fully informed of nursing enrollment.   This position will also assist with recruitment of students and provides feedback in preparation of the annual recruitment plan for the School of Nursing, with an emphasis on under-represented minority students in the School of Nursing.

      SIUE is pleased to announce Open Recruitment/Testing for future openings for Carpenters for the FY23 year.

      SIUE Carpenters are responsible for performing carpentry work in all areas of the university and on all campuses (Edwardsville, Alton, and East St. Louis) while maintaining a comfortable, safe, and efficient environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.  Routine duties for Carpenters include but are not limited to:
      1. Repair and/or replace doors, door hardware, floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs.
      2. Uncrate/assemble new furniture and equipment for relocation; deliver furniture in accordance with prevailing agreements.  Also repair furniture as needed. 
      3. Install interior and exterior signage.
      4. Perform an assortment of carpentry tasks to construct new spaces for offices and/or instructional areas.

      Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department/university’s mission and goals.
